In this article, you will read about a personal story about an artist moving, along with learning 8 self-care tips to provide for yourself while in the process of moving.
Moving is time-consuming and just way too much clutter and “stuff” going on! It can be very exhausting, overwhelming and mind-confusing. Oh and did I mention, emotional?! I have lived in my current house for 13 years with my significant other while raising our 12 year old son here. We decided it is best we all need a change and to move forward into another location and so here we are… searching for our future house that we can settle into and call our home. As an artist, I am grateful to have the massive amount of art supplies that I do have! I literally filled up an entire room (actually, more than an entire room) with all of my boxed-up art materials and supplies. Within this current house, I have created my own personal space (art studio/work space) where I can create art and have my meetings, workshops and seminars (virtually). With this new move, I am feeling a little down and blue about temporarily sacrificing not having my own work space and art studio. You see, my family and I have decided to take a little detour and rent a smaller place an hour from where we are used to living. We need to sell our current house and take the time we need to find our future *perfect* house! Although I am excited to move, I am going to miss the art studio where I have created most, if not ALL of my artwork for the past 13 years, so yeah, I am definitely sentimental about moving. Not to mention all of the memories I have created in this house with my son and his father - this is where it hits hard!
Since moving can be so much to deal with on a variety of levels, I am learning that self-care is crucial for a time like this. I have to take care of myself before I can tend to others and so I have been focusing on working on caring for myself mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. I thought I would share these 8 tips to care for oneself during the process of moving:
Check in with Self ~ Ask Self: How I am feeling? What can I do to provide myself with balance?
Get proper rest!
Wake up in the *right* mind-set.
Create art or journal your feelings.
Ask for help as needed.
Practice mindfulness and focus on what you can do in that moment.
Stay hydrated, drink lots of water.
Continue laughter even when things do not work out according to plan.
Believe in yourself and you can Kreate What U Want
